Random Thoughts

  • I see articles all over the place suggesting that Mangini cannot be trusted any more and will have a hard time getting another job if he fails as the HC of the New Jersey Jets. Now, let me get this straight. Does that mean the coaches that cheat can’t trust him or the coaches that don’t cheat can’t trust him? Here’s a shock: what makes everybody thinks that after this experience, Mangini would want another job in the NFL?

  • I hope this new commissioner hires Mangini (or someone else) to start a new division for the sole purpose of investigating and shutting down all type of “against the rules” activities of coaches. Obviously the “police yourself” honor system in place now is not working because of the interpretation of the word “cheating”. It’s kind of like your definition of the word “is”!

Random Thoughts

  •  Call me suspicious, but why do I think that the timing of the signing of JaMarcus Russell has something to do with the six months needed to clear your system before you take a urine test?  It’s not about guaranteed money!

  • Whatever happened to the “in the grasp rule”?  I see QB’s with players draped all over them making shovel passes when the play should be whistled dead because the QB is “in the grasp”.  The bigger QB’s are allowed to continue to make plays, but the smaller QB’s are being thrown around like ragdolls.  If the QB is stationary and players are around his legs hanging on for dear life, the play should be whistled dead.

I am surprised at Sean Salisbury and Mike Golic of ESPN and their reaction to the hot topic of the day, “Does the taping of defensive signals of another team give the team that tapes an advantage?”  It seems that when all the “experts” on TV and radio are asked this question, they all say the same thing.  It’s like someone cloned “stupid” and put it in front of a TV just to answer this question.

The answer that I’m hearing from all of these former player/announcers is that the players don’t gain any advantage because they still have to play the game and it takes athletes to play the game.

Random Thoughts : The Michael Vick Mess

Posted by thehuddlereport.com on September 5, 2007

It is my personal opinion that Michael Vick will never see the inside of a jail.  What’s that you say?  Drew, you’re crazy!   Here is my reasoning.  First of all, I do not believe our legal system is willing to equate the cruel treatment of animals and the death of animals to the level of mistreatment or the killing of a human being.  We may have laws on the books suggesting that these acts warrant jail time, but the judges and lawyers that deal with the killing, raping, mistreatment of woman, children, senior citizens etc - will find it hard to give Michael actual jail time for his acts.  Think about this for a minute — you are a judge who just sentenced a guy who beat his wife into a hospital, and all you could do was give the guy one-year probation because he does not have a previous record.
